Singapore library board archives al-Qaeda papers
Singapore - Original al-Qaeda papers are among hundreds of documents on terrorism to be preserved and archived by Singapore's National Library Board (NLB), the facility said Thursday.
The information will be accessible to relevant agencies and researchers for the purpose of threat assessment and counterterrorism studies.
The NLB and Nanyang Technological University's S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) signed a memorandum of understanding providing for the arrangement.
"As international terrorism increasingly becomes a significant global security threat, we want to promote public education in terrorism and enable the public to make sense of the global developments in this area," The Straits Times quoted RSIS dean Barry Desker as saying.
All the documents are being provided by the RSIS' International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research, which has been collecting the material since 2001.
The NLB will also provide the public with access to information including lists of terrorist personalities and the dates of various attacks.//DPA
